Champion Ouija Board foals Galileo filly

Ouija Board, a two-time Horse of the Year in Europe and champion in the U.S., recently delivered her third foal at owner Lord Derby’s Stanley House Stud in Newmarket.

By Galileo (Ire), the foal was born on February 14 and is the first filly produced by Ouija Board, who was Europe’s Horse of the Year of 2004 and ’06 and champion grass mare in the U.S. for the same seasons after capturing editions of the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1).

“She is a very nice bay filly,” Stanley House Stud’s Peter Stanley told Racing Post. Stanley manages the farm for his brother, Edward Stanley, the 19th Earl of Derby, who will retain the filly to race.

“She is very like her mother; tall, correct, and potentially a decent type,” Stanley said. “Hopefully, she will join our broodmare band in a couple of years after achieving something on the racecourse.”

Lord Derby bred and campaigned Ouija Board in a stellar international campaign that also included victories in the 2004 Vodafone Epsom Oaks (Eng-G1) and Darley Irish Oaks (Eng-G1). She retired with ten wins, three seconds, and five third-place finishes from 22 career starts for trainer Ed Dunlop and $6,312,552 in earnings.

Ouija Board has a two-year-old bay Kingmambo colt named Voodoo Prince, who is in training with Dunlop, and a bay yearling colt by Monsun, whose future as a runner for Lord Derby has yet to be decided
